Friday Jan 31, 2020
Friday Jan 31, 2020
How does moving to a new country affect your body confidence? In fact, how does everyday life affect the way you look at yourself? We are bombarded with images of how we should look and we almost forget to question these assumptions.
Cliona Bryne is a Body confidence coach who is helping women love and appreciate their bodies for magnificent vessels that they are. In this episode, we talk about:
- The major surgery she had at age 20.
- How a stint as an international student gave her the travel/expat bug.
- Why every woman needs an emergency stash.
- And finally how taking a leap of faith led to everything falling into place.
Thank you for listening I appreciate it, please share this podcast with a friend.

I was so excited to be out in touch with Jessica Hammer, Founder of Taste of Toulouse.
This Enterprising Expats introduces English speakers to French food in Toulouse with her walking food tours. After a Successful Marketing Career, it was time for a change, but that can be so frightening when you don't what the change should be and what direction to go in.
Part of the Journey from Chicago to Toulouse involved a holiday, an interesting visa and dash of determination.

5 Tips to Help You Settle in a New Country
Saturday Jan 04, 2020
Saturday Jan 04, 2020
Welcome to Episode 5!! Today is 5 tips to help you settle in your new country.
This is my first solo show and in it, I tell you a little about my expat journey. What I did wrong, the twisting journey to starting my own business and what I did when I had no clients.
Finding yourself in a new country with no support system can be overwhelming for anyone. What simple steps can you take to form a community? How do you form friendships and a new professional network?
The answer is slowly but in this short episode, I tell you what works for me.
This episode takes us from Lesotho - Sierra Leone - Lebanon and finally the US.
I ask a few questions in the episode and I would love to feature your answers in the show
- Do you and your spouse do everything together? Do you think spouses should have their own friend outside of friends you have as a couple?
- One thing you've tried in your new country that you'd never consider "back home"?
- Do you have a messy startup story? How many twists and turns did you go through before you hit on what have now?

Gabriela is a psychologist and expat coach, she also has a ready laugh and amazing stories!
This episode begins in Chile with a predecessor to couch-surfing, she became a lovepat and moved to Austria. Giving herself 3 months to learn the language and to find a job, her well-structured plans went a little sideways.
As orderly as Austria is, a longing for her native tongue and the sun led her to move to Spain.
We cover a lot in this episode our thoughts on online dating apps, making friends and when you get bad advice and you aren't able to work in your chosen field.

Janine Christie on life in Spain, finances and rebooting your career
Thursday Nov 28, 2019
Thursday Nov 28, 2019
Today our roots are in Jamaica, nurtured in the UK and matured in Canada.
Janine Christie is hilarious!! The brains and humour behind the blog: My Expatations.
We cover a lot of ground with a lot of laughter. I even had to mute my mic!
Janine is a lovepat, she fell in love with a Welshman and went to live in Spain. On this journey, there was a stint in London and an incident with a hammer.
Janine arrived in Spain just before the economy went belly-up and was unable to find fulfilling work. Then there's the whole issue of your spouse supporting you financially, and how awkward and disempowering that can feel when you have always been financially independent. Is it fair?
Janine found her feet and her voice again by reassessing her skills and ever so gently poking fun at the dance that is creating friendships in expat communities. Out of this, her blog was finally launched after a year under wraps, and now she is providing salty copywriting services.

Monday Nov 11, 2019

Allison Lounes is an American living in France. She started learning French in Middle school and carried her love of the language to College.
She wasn't put-off by anyone asking her what on earth she was going to do with a French degree, she just had an inkling she was going to speak French professionally.....somehow.
Fast forward a few years and the most amazing subject for a Masters degree, that I've ever heard of. Allison is settled in France with her family and running her company Paris Unraveled guiding her clients to find the appropriate visa for their situation.
Allison isn't afraid or shy to talk about:
- The loneliness that can face a lot of spouses
- Her battle with depression and
- Her biggest mistake with a client
What do you need to know before moving to France? What should you be thinking about? This episode will give you food for thought.

Are you a Creator or a Maker? Do you feel unsettled if you are not making, drawing or creating? Carrie Brummer’s’ life has become her career - she’s an artist first and wants us to stop putting art last on our list.
This Enterprising Expat found love in Dubai and followed her heart to Oman but (a tale a lot of expat spouses are familiar with) wasn’t allowed to work in Muscat. Her blog and ideas grew into a business and online community.
In this episode:
- Learn a little more about the Middle East
- Find out how Carrie dealt with all the feelings that come with being a “Trailing Spouse”
- Discover our pet peeves and the “oddest” thing Carrie has eaten
